The AHIGS Sporting Committee (IGSSA) organises competitions among leading independent girls' schools in New South Wales. Secondary school girls compete in team and individual sports at school level and can be selected through IGSSA for state representative teams and higher competitions. IGSSA complements each school's physical education and sport programme by providing interschool competition at all levels from beginners to elite.
Established in 1922, IGSSA grew rapidly in the 1980's and 90's after the introduction of graded competition for many sports, improving competitions and adding new sports. In addition to carnivals for Swimming, Diving, Cross Country, Athletics and Gymnastics, IGSSA offers graded competitions in two sports per term:
TERM 1 Softball and Tennis TERM 2 Basketball and Soccer TERM 3 Hockey and Netball TERM 4 Cricket and Water Polo
These graded competitions held on Saturdays involve between 5000 - 6300 participants each term.
IGSSA is a sub committee of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools - NSW.
